Have you ever looked at your Nerf basketball set and thought “That thing sure is drab…”  Well… we’ve got the answer!  With a little paper, some glue and scissors you can revamp it into something less boring and it’s super easy to do.

You can use anything for your backdrop from a colorful design with shapes to a character like we used. Coloring books can many times have very simple images that would work great as ideas and patterns.  This Nerf basketball makeover comes courtesy of our daughter Amy who chose Patrick from SpongeBob for her design.blank630x20

Supplies

  • Nerf Basketball Set (or something similar) The one we did is the standard 16″ x 11.5″ but any size will work.
  • Construction paper, scrapbook paper or cardstock. The large square 12×12 size scrapbook paper is best for the larger set as it covers the most space. We still had to cut it into pieces to cover the back.
  • Mod Podge
  • Scissors

The fastest way to make your solid background pattern is to trace your backboard onto a piece of newspaper. Decide what you want  to put on it. You could find a simple image that you want to trace and use. Patrick from SpongeBob was our choice. He was super simple to make! Plus he covered the seam up the middle nicely.

After you cut out your pieces, glue them onto the background. Mod Podge works great for this. You can also give the whole thing a coat of it. If you think you want to change it out later don’t do that though.

  1. What a great idea! We don’t have one of these Nerf sets but my kids would love to get one and do this revamp to it, I’m sure! Thank you for sharing at our #HomeMattersParty this week!
