Get your free download for an amazing 3D dragon craft to decorate your walls. A simple and delightful way to add a little magic to any room, adult or child.Nothing beats a good dragon craft. Being a fan of things mystical, magical and whimsical, dragons also fall into that category. My home has touches of all these things in most of my rooms, some subtle, some not so subtle. My home office is one of the not so subtle rooms. It’s where I spend a lot of my time and it reflects my likes dramatically and boasts several dragons, most of which are a set of flying one’s on my wall.

I purchased the ones you see then realized it would be fairly simple to make my own style. Well, not me personally, but my go to person for this type of thing, my daughter Jennifer. I would ask her to make a set then others who also enjoy all things dragony could have flying dragons on their walls! (I know your out there… or at least your kids are.) So she drew up our own dragons and we made them into a downloadable package just for you. And if you are looking for more dragon things well, of course I have them for you. Spin tops might be old fashioned but these custom tops made from a CD a ping pong ball and a soda lid are a blast played in a group, and they spin forever!I know spin tops are a bit old school but that doesn’t mean they can’t be a lot of fun. What’s so awesome about these is that they’re made from a CD, and ping pong ball and a soda bottle lid and they literally spin forever. This is a great activity for the kids both the making of them and the playing with them afterwards.  They can be decorated with permanent markers or patterned paper and have teams to do top battles, see if they can knock the others off balance within a confined area. Or play and see whose lasts the longest. But I’m telling you, if you do the latter be prepared to wait a while! I have to tell you it’s a bit zen just sitting and them watching the thing spin. You might want to make one special for yourself and spin it and watch it for a bit.  If you’re looking for more things to keep the kids busy check out our Nerf Basketball Makeover and our Gnome in a Cup a Fun DIY Nature Craft.

Spin Top Supplies

NOTE: Anything you add to the top, such as the decor we added to the lid top, will change the balance so be careful as it might not spin as well. I think things like a little sparkle would be fine though.

The wobble you see is to due to the flower I glued on the top. Spin tops might be old fashioned but these custom tops made from a CD a ping pong ball and a soda lid are a blast played in a group, and they spin forever!

Poke a hole into your paper where the hole in the CD or DVD is. Using hot glue or another fast drying glue, glue the soda bottle lid over the center of the TOP of the CD or DVD. This one is a bit sloppy. Try to be even and light with your glue. That makes for more even spinning.Spin tops might be old fashioned but these custom tops made from a CD a ping pong ball and a soda lid are a blast played in a group, and they spin forever!

So easy & inexpensive you can make a whole set!Learn how to make a custom DIY mouse pad in 10 minutes using cork, a bit of material & some spray adhesive. It’s so easy and inexpensive you can make a whole set to switch in and out, depending on your mood. Any cotton material will work. It’s a great project for teens too! This is a quicker version of our other Make Your Own Large Mouse Pad post we did a while back and this one can also be made any size you like.  If you have a home office of your own you might also enjoy How to Build a Simple Large Surface Home Office Desk and Messy to Marvelous Closet Makeover for a Home Office.  (That last one will show you why we chose pink for our mouse pad!)

DIY Mouse Pad Supplies

NOTE ON CORK: I used this brand from Amazon as it was the best I could find for my needs and the highest rated. It did have a drawback. It was 1/8″ thick which is fairly thin but I like that myself. The biggest problem is that it was very stiff and would not lay flat. I had to cut my piece, wet it and lay something heavy on it overnight to get it to lay flat. Then let it dry. It’s just not flexible. It will work and it’s inexpensive. You might find what you need at a local craft store. Any rolled cork might give you the same problem. Wetting it didn’t harm it at all.

These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.One of the things I find the most difficult to do on a budget is create unique light fixtures. Normal ones are pretty bleh and nice one’s are mega expensive. You can come up with your own ideas, and I’ve check out plenty, but that can be tricky due to safety reasons. We did that for our Outdated Kitchen Transformation Series . We used a large wire bowl that we painted white. Looks awesome. However, I had three other rooms that had plain old three bulbs with a round or square cover that were held on by a screw thing in the center.

I wanted to do something simple, inexpensive, yet unique and safe. Then, an idea hit me. Oil markers… the kind that are used for decorating crockery mugs and dishes, then baked to set the ink. You can find them all on Pinterest or a good search. Now, as I’ve said many times before,  I’m no artist so I needed something simple I could share with those of you who also might be like me.  (If you do happen to be an artist you can really go crazy with these!)  Pay attention to the pointers given then grab the color or colors you want and create your own custom light shade!

FYI For our living room and dining room we hit the thrift stores and bought two chandeliers fairly cheap. If you don’t mind a tiny bit of wiring you can read our post Ceiling Fan to Thrift Store Chandelier Makeover.

Unique Light Fixtures Supplies

SAFETY AND HEAT ISSUES Oil based pens have been very popular the last few years for drawing on crockery food ware then baking for approximately 30 minutes at 450 degrees to set it. It is then safe, including dishwasher safe. Hence they are the perfect medium to use for your glass light shades!

NOTES: This is one of those projects that you can do with or without patterns.  If you’re like me and don’t have a lot of artistic skill then a pattern is a big help. But even I can put even dots or dashes or blocks around the edge of something and not have it look too bad so feel free to check out some of the ideas online others have done when drawing with oil markers on cups and plates. You just might find some designs you could do free hand.

I strongly suggest not covering your shade with a lot of paint.  Keep the design light and sparse or even just on the borders, otherwise it defeats the purpose of letting light through. Think of putting small images scattered around it or scallops or dots on the edges. Just something simple but unique. We’ve shown you what we’ve done to get you started and even given you a couple patterns. The cool thing is you can see through the glass and put a small pattern behind it needed to help you trace!

TRIANGLE ON SQUARE COVER

This is a 12.5″ square that is in my craft room whose main color is teal. I could not find the color teal in the normal sets so I had to buy a teal one just for this project. I used the pattern that is in the free download packet up top.

These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Cut out your pattern. This is one corner. You can either print four of this page or print one and move it four times, which is what I did. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

The paper will lay on the inside of your shade, but because your shade is convex it helps to cut it  in a few spots before taping it in place for tracing. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I just made a quick triangle cut myself but do whatever works so it fits down into the glass cover. Then lightly tape it in place. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Turn it over and paint in where you see the triangles. Keep in mind you can take artistic choice and add or not add what you feel is needed. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Once one corner is finished, remove the paper and align it again as before. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

IMPORTANT: You will see that the triangles do not line up correctly on the overlap. Just decide for yourself where a triangle needs to go or does not need to go in on the overlap. Just do what looks good. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I actually placed a bottle underneath in some spots to help hold the paper against the glass while I was painting with my pen. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

FLOWERS ON CIRCLE COVER

This one is for my home office which has one of it’s colors as hot pink. I chose flowers.

I cut out all the flowers into close squares. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I then taped them on the back of the glass cover, spacing them until it looked good to me. I then turned it over to check the layout. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I then took my pink marker and traced them, then filled them in except for the middle open area. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

COMPASS ON CIRCLE COVER

This is the compass light cover that goes in my library. My husband Roy helped with this one. He created the design and drew it on as his hand is steadier than mine.  Cut out both sides of the compass shape.

The cuts help you to lay the pattern inside the glass convex light cover. Tape it into place. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Do the same on the other side. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Make sure the lines are straight and things look good. Then cut out the letters for North South East and West and place them where they will go. NOTE: You are going to hand draw a line from the outside edge of the shade. The letters will need to be in between that line and the inner circle line. You might want to wait to add the letters after you draw both lines. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Using a gold pen and your third finger as a guide against the outside edge of the glass cover, draw a line around the edge of the entire glass shade. I’d estimate about 1/2 an inch or a little more.  NOTE: BE CAREFUL TO NOT GET CUT IF YOUR SHADE IS ROUGH ON THE OUTSIDE EDGES. ALSO REMEMBER: Do not make the line too far into the shade as your letters have to fit between that line and the inner line. Like I stated, maybe 1/2″ or a little more. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Draw the inner circle line following the pattern. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Draw on the inner lines and triangles. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Chose a color for your letters and draw them on.  These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Add three gold dots, evenly spaced, in between each set of letters. The best way to do this is to place a dot in the exact center between the letters, then add the other dots on each side. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

To make the flowers, all you really need are three things. Tissue paper, string and scissors.
For simple & unique window treatment ideas you'll love our tissue paper flower window toppers. The gorgeous flowers cost pennies & take minutes to make.

NOTE ON STORE PURCHASED TISSUE FLOWERS: You CAN purchase the tissue flowers. They come like this. We bought some to test. You still have to do all the work of pulling the layers out. The biggest problem is they put WAY TOO MANY LAYERS of tissue paper. Much more than is needed and the flower ends up looking too crunched up. These have 10 sheets each. We took them apart and made two flowers  out of each one. You only really need 4 sheets per flower for the best look. These also cost a lot more. Considering all you’re doing is saving the time fanning the tissue paper, its much cheaper to just make them from scratch. Should you decide to buy this type, Amazon has a nice selection.
For simple & unique window treatment ideas you'll love our tissue paper flower window toppers. The gorgeous flowers cost pennies & take minutes to make. The sheets we used are 20″ x 26″. Use no more than 4 or 5 sheets.

SIZES OF FLOWERS

LARGE FLOWERS: For flowers that are 10″ or larger you can fold over the 5 sheets FIRST before doing the accordion folding. These flowers need more bulk to them.

SMALLER FLOWERS: For say a 6″ flower, cut 8 sheets  6″ by about 10″ or 12″ long.  DO NOT do STEP 1. Start with doing the accordion folding and continue from there. It will only take a short time before you realize what size works best.

STEP #1 for flowers approximately 10″ or larger.

The twine coming out of the mouth of the bottle should then be fed through the hole made in the bottle cap.  Once through the hole, simply apply the bottle cap to the bottle and pull twine as needed.

Download the free pattern sheet and choose which ones you will use. We tried cutting out the printed pattern and use it directly from our printer, however the ink ran when we glued it to the inside of our jar. If you’d like to try that we suggest spraying the page with a setting solution such as clear acrylic spray. Hair spray might even work though we’ve not tried it. This “might” keep the ink from running. The next way to do it is to use the download as a pattern and tape it onto a black piece of paper or construction paper. (Not cardstock)

Instructions #1 HORIZONTAL PLANTER

Begin by placing the rubber band around the top of the bottle, about 1 1/2 – 2 inches from the base of the bottle neck.  Trace around the rubber band with the dry erase marker, creating your cut line.  Repeat on the second soda bottle as well.  (For this project we used tall water bottles with a flat base.  We used the Life WTR bottles, but a few other brands make similar bottles.)
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Remove the rubber band and use the X-acto knife to cut along the dry erase line.  Remember to cut as straight as possible as we will be using both pieces of the bottle.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Once the two bottles are cut, draw a 1 inch triangle on one of the bottle edges.  Cut out the triangle.  This will allow the bottle to insert easily into the second bottle.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Insert the bottle base with the triangle cutout into the second bottle base.  There will be a small gap between the two.  Don’t worry!  This will be filled shortly.

Watch this short video on how to round the edge of a plastic bottle.

Take your combined bottle bases and turn so that the gap is facing the bottom.   Push the bottles together until you have the desired length of your planter.

They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Using a soda bottle top, place the mouth of the bottle at the desired location along the top of the combined bottle bases.  Trace inside the bottle opening with a dry erase marker.  Repeat on the opposite side of the TOP of the bottle bases, making sure that both circles are at least 3 inches in from the edges.  We recommend using a ruler to ensure that the openings are directly across from one another.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Remove the bottle tops and trace an outline around the existing circle.  This should be about 1/4 inch around the circle you just created.  This will allow for the soda bottles to be inserted into the bottle bases without being too large that they wobble around.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Using the X-acto knife, cut along the outside line you just drew.  Then simply wipe away any remaining dry erase marks.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles. To ensure they fit, pop the bottle tops, neck down, into the holes along the top of your bottle bases.  This should be a somewhat snug fit, allowing you to squeeze the widest ring on the mouth of the bottle into the hole.  When turned upside down, the bottle tops should not fall out.
These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles. The finished product thus far should look like this.  Notice that the bottle tops are aligned directly across the top and the gap on the combined bottle bases is facing directly down on the table surface.

Now to handle the gap at the bottom of our combined bottle bases.  Use a clear, silicone, water-proof caulk in order to ensure that the planter doesn’t leak but still appears clear. These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Begin by turning your combined bottle bases upside down to access the gap.  Pull the bottles apart about half an inch from your desired length.  Using the silicone, fill the gap with a substantial amount of silicone.

These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles.Complete this around the bottle until there is a smooth, clear coat along the seam.  Don’t be afraid to add extra silicone to the gap if needed.  Keep in mind that the gap will be on the bottom of the bottle and does not need to be as ‘pretty’ as the smoothed seam.  Let dry 30 minutes, or the amount of time recommended on your brand of silicone.

Once dry, prepare for painting by wrapping masking tape around each edge of the bottle, roughly 3 inches in.  Cover the center portion of the bottle with a paper towel to protect it from over spray.  (TIP: Wipe off the soda bottle ends thoroughly prior to spray painting.  Unseen finger prints or residue will cause the spray paint to pool or not cover evenly.)These metro modern self watering planters will catch everyone's eye. They're low maintenance plant care disguised in classy uniquely upcycled soda bottles. To create the self-watering system, use a highly absorbent string or yarn.  We’ve found that 100% cotton works wonderfully!

Sorry we don’t have a picture of that. If was an afterthought. To add weight and style, pour pebbles, rocks or stones, in the color of your choice into the combined bottle bases.

Cup Dispenser Bathroom Station Supplies

NOTE: You can use a variety of small soda bottles for this project. The important thing to remember is that for the cup dispenser, the end must be able to be trimmed so that the cups are barely able to be pulled out.  We made ours to fit the 3oz. bathroom cups. Depending on size you prefer, you could also use a 5 oz size cup.

  • 3 plastic soda bottles. (We used the straight sided 17 fluid oz bottles of soda Walmart carries. The 20 oz Aquafina you see would likewise have worked.)
  • Spray paint of choice
  • Dry erase marker (to mark your bottles)
  • X-acto knife
  • Scissors
  • Glues (Hot glue can be used for part of the project. I’d suggest spray adhesive for the labels and a strong, quick dry glue for the lid tab though hot glue can be used if you’re careful to not use too much.)
  • Filler Flat Marbles, pebbles or sand
  • Small piece of craft foam, for lid
  • 1″wood ball for lid
  • Labels (free download below)
  • Packing tape (used for laminating labels)
  • Iron (for rounding edges of two bottles if desired)

CUP DISPENSER

NOTE: Since doing this post we found a much nicer way to make a cup dispenser following our Contemporary Kitchen Craft Cup Dispenser post. It works so much better and looks awesome. Follow the instructions for it and then come back here to finish the other parts of your bathroom set!.

This cup dispenser is part of our matching Contemporary Kitchen Craft series. Hang it anywhere. It works and looks great! Best soda bottle upcycle ever!

FINISHING TOP EDGES

This is an optional step but gives two of the bottles a nice finish. It should be done on the Toothbrush and Floss holder. Doing it on the cup dispenser could make the cups not fit in properly depending on the size of your bottle.  This does NOT leave anything on your iron and gives your bottle a nice rounded edge. Lightly push the end of your bottle EVENLY against the end of a high heat iron for a few seconds. 5 to 10.

Looking for some inexpensive kitchen wall decor to brighten up your home? These darling dollar store plastic plates and platters are just the thing! This charming kitchen wall decor cost us $1.00 to make. Dollar Tree carries these bright plastic plates and platters regularly. The set we did for our kitchen, assuming you have trouble with basic addition, was $3.00.  I actually cheated a bit and used my Silhouette Portrait to cut vinyl letters for my kitchen set.  But that’s just a perk if you have one.

These are so easy and fun to make and you can fill your kitchen with whatever words you choose!  If you’ve been following along you know this is part of our Outdated Kitchen Transformation. Make sure you check out our last decor addition to the project. Our Chicken Wire Frame Memo Board with Faux Succulents. It’s pretty unique!

Kitchen Wall Decor Supplies

NOTE: If you own a Silhouette cutting machine you can of course easily make your own words easily out of vinyl. You can also buy ready made letters at the craft store. The most inexpensive way is to use colored paper and card stock and cut your own. You can use our patterns or make your own on a printer.

These retro coaster sets found in many thrift stores make a beautiful photo upcycling project with some paint glue and personal pictures!Have you ever been walking through a thrift store looking for your next upcycling project and saw something that screamed “take me home and turn me into something awesome!” That’s what happened with this little retro coaster set. It was the proverbial puppy looking at me with big brown eyes. Well, maybe not quite that dramatic but I just knew I could do something special with it, though at the time I had no idea what. So I set in my basket and off to to the checkout I went, along with a few other finds.

It sat on my craft room shelf for quite a while as I pondered what I might create with it. Then I did what I always do when I have a “crafters block”. I called my daughter Jennifer. And thus from that old brown retro coaster set a beautiful gold and white picture holder was born.  Nothing warms my heart more than an upcycling project where I give an old item a new home.  FYI this is also fits into our Buff Your Stuff series so you might want to take a peek at those other items. Speaking of which, you’ve got to check out two of our other favorite things made from another time that seems to be in abundance in thrift stores: Brass candle holders. First is our Classy Jewelry Stand and the second is a Portable Recipe Holder!

Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge! If you’re looking for a small token for Valentines day or anytime, here’s cute little heart keyring you can make while saving the planet!  OK, that might be a little extreme but it does use up a plastic lid, which hopefully you grabbed by digging in your neighbors trash… those darned non-earth caring people.  I won’t mention where I got my lid but they make the cutest little keyrings rather than adding to our bulging land fills. And if you’re looking to gain even more positive Karma, place the keyring in our lovely little Soda Bottle Pillow Box. And if you’re looking to increase your Karma with the person you’re giving it to, attach a key to a new car.  Just saying.

Gather your supplies. For this first heart we’re using fabric.

Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Choose the size of heart you want to make from our free printable patterns.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Cut out a heart from the plastic lid.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Trim the end a little so it’s not a sharp point. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

I used my plastic heart as a pattern for the fabric. I used a tight weave burlap for one side. You can cut your other fabric at the same time if you want.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! For the ring holder, take a small piece of fabric and cut it approximately 1/2″ wide and 2 1/2″ long. Coat it lightly with Mod Podge.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Fold it over. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Bend it over and trim it to about 1 1/2 to 2″. You just want a large enough loop to slip your ring through but also enough to glue under the fabric on your heart.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! On the other side of the heart you will add another piece of fabric. If you have not cut it out yet do so with your pattern.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

For this heart we added strips of Washi tape touching each other. Once they are on we cut around the heart where we had drawn. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Remember to round the tip a little so that it’s not sharp. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Turn your heart over and apply Washi tape to the back just as you did on the front. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

You can punch a small hole into the corner of the heart to hold the ring. I had just received this nifty Crop a Dile Eyelet Punch so I decided to try it out for the first time on this heart. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

It’s a pretty neat little gadget and you can use at least two sizes of eyelets. Punch the hole.Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

Insert the eyelet, which comes in every color of the rainbow. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

And clamp. Done!Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

I admit it’s cool and does give it a more professional finish but had I not had this, I’d have just used a 1/8″ hole punch. Make a heart keyring as a gift for Valentine’s Day or any day! This upcycle uses a plastic lid, a split key ring & some fabric or Washi tape & Mod Podge!

NOTE: You do need to treat your gloves with care and don’t stretch out the finger holes anymore than necessary. The Frey Check helps a lot but they are still knit gloves and will pull apart if you are too rough with them. Just use a gentle “hand” so to speak.

These are the supplies needed for the Puffy Paint Power Texting Gloves. Gloves, Fray Check and Puffy Paint of choice.

Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

These are the supplies you will need for the string text gloves. Gloves, Fray Check Fabric Glue and heavy String. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Begin by cutting off the tips of the gloves where they start to curve.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Carefully put them on and see where they fall on your fingers. This lets you know if any need trimmed. You want to be extra careful at this stage to not stretch the ends out as they will fray easily at this point.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

The pinky finger needed trimmed as you could see so I trimmed it a little. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

You then want to test them, again being careful to stretch them out as little as possible, to make sure they work fine for texting. Trim more if needed.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Once one glove is trimmed to the exact length needed, lay it over the other glove and trim it to match. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Find a slim object you can stick your gloves over to hold them up while you put the Fray Check on the ends of each finger. I used two small spray cans.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Make sure each finger hole is spread out.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

It’s now time to pull out the Fray Check which is perfect for things like this. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

You will run a bead of Fray Check around the edge of each finger hole. Don’t be afraid to rub it in as you go with the tip of the applicator. Put plenty on. If the end of any finger is curved under slightly make sure to pull it up so you can coat the area that has been cut. Fray Check dries quickly. Go over the ends again if needed to make sure you get a good coat around it. Do this on both gloves. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Make sure the tips don’t touch each other and stay open so they don’t stick together from the Fray Check as it dries, which takes only minutes. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

For the puffy paint text I suggest practicing on paper first then apply your text to the four fingers. MAKE SURE TO DO IT THE RIGHT DIRECTION. Puffy paint normally takes about 4 hours to dry lying flat. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

For the string words, cut pieces of string for the words you choose.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

You’ll want to make the words in sections as I did with the M. I laid all my words out ahead of time to make sure they were the correct size.Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

Once all your letters are cut, grab your fabric glue. Do you love to text? Are your hands cold? Do you get tired of taking gloves on and off to do said texting? DIY Power Texting Gloves to the rescue!

We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

A pillow box is a nifty little invention that’s perfect for putting a small gift in. They are magically self closing and most are made from cardstock. But we’re going to show you how to  make one from a plastic soda bottle! It’s easy and fun. Plus pillow boxes aren’t the only thing you can make from a soda bottle. (Not to brag or anything, but we kinda consider ourselves soda bottle gurus over here.) First, you gotta check out these other awesome Christmas Gift Wrapping Ideas Using Soda Bottles (though you can use them any time of year of course.) Next, well… where to start… I’d have to say one of our more popular soda bottle posts is our Geometric & Confetti Plastic Bag Holder & Dispenser. It’s an upcycle that not only looks great but is useful!

Pillow Box Supplies

When your finished, use the pillow box for a Valentines Gift idea!

These tiny pretzel arrows take seconds to make. Use our pillow box tutorial and attach one of our cute free tags and you've got the perfect Valentine gift!

Instructions

We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

I use a dry erase marker for making all my cutting lines because it wipes right off afterwards. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

If you’re lucky there may be a line already near the bottom of your bottle. There was on this one so I used it as a cutting line. If not, you’ll have to measure up to cut off the base just where it stops curving in. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

After I cut the bottom off I then measured up and marked the bottle using my dry erase marker where I would cut it on the top. Go as high as you can before it starts to curve. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Cut along where you marked. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Wipe off your marks and you should now have a cylinder. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Carefully flatten the cylinder and crease it on two sides.  Press is with your hands and fingers to start but you will then need to use something to get a crisp crease on each side. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

I use a bone folder which is made for the purpose of creasing paper and card stock. Its actually made out of bone and very strong. You can use pretty much anything, however, that will give you a good crease. The handle of a butter knife for example should work well. Just make sure to get a good crisp crease all the way to the ends. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

You will now cut a curve around each end. To do this you need to find a cup, bowl or plate that fits your bottle end as shown. You want a nice gentle curve as shown, with very little being taken off. You want the bowl to barely touch the top of the end.

We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Mark it with your dry erase marker as shown. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Cut off the end where you marked and do the same on the other side. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

This is the part is a little tricky. Take your bowl and face it the OTHER way on each end. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Make sure to score it with the knife all the way to the corners. As the scoring will not go through to the back side, you will need to flip the container over and do the same thing to the back side, then repeat the same thing on the other end. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Carefully bend down on the crease you made with the knife and fold it inward. We'll show you how to make a pillow box from almost any size of soda bottle. Wrapped in ribbon they are a perfect unique way to give a small gift or treats!

Have you ever had a time when you’re really in the mood for some sort of change in your home but your budget just won’t allow for it at the moment? #raisedhand  Well, this is where our geometric door decorations come in  handy. For the price of a roll of Washi tape (About $3.00) you can have an awesome looking closet door in 15 minutes or less. And it’s a pretty sizable statement piece to boot!  Plus, it’s easily removable, which makes it perfect for rental homes or if you’re the type of person who likes to change things frequently.

NOTE: DO NOT USE ELECTRICAL TAPE. It does not work. It stretches and falls off. This comes from experience. Ü

We suggest using a piece of paper and drawing out your design ahead of time and then just copying it with your Washi tape onto the door. Placement does not have to be exact. With a foam sheet, 40mm round gold sequins and hot glue you make this awesome huge lightning bolt statement piece to hang on your wall. Shockingly gorgeous!

We made this cheap wall decor lightning bolt from a piece of foam that came packed in some furniture but the foam board you buy at the store works just as well. Most Dollar Stores, Craft Stores and Walmart carries it. You could literally make any design but this one went in our daughter Amy’s chic office and the lightning bolt fit her decor perfectly. This is one of those upcycles or basic crafts that costs next to nothing but looks phenomenal! If you’re looking for more great inexpensive ways to decorate, check out our DIY Cash Statement Piece and our Anti-Bad Vibe Shield, both made from foam board!
