Get your free download for an amazing 3D dragon craft to decorate your walls. A simple and delightful way to add a little magic to any room, adult or child.Nothing beats a good dragon craft. Being a fan of things mystical, magical and whimsical, dragons also fall into that category. My home has touches of all these things in most of my rooms, some subtle, some not so subtle. My home office is one of the not so subtle rooms. It’s where I spend a lot of my time and it reflects my likes dramatically and boasts several dragons, most of which are a set of flying one’s on my wall.

I purchased the ones you see then realized it would be fairly simple to make my own style. Well, not me personally, but my go to person for this type of thing, my daughter Jennifer. I would ask her to make a set then others who also enjoy all things dragony could have flying dragons on their walls! (I know your out there… or at least your kids are.) So she drew up our own dragons and we made them into a downloadable package just for you. And if you are looking for more dragon things well, of course I have them for you. This cheap folding stool from Amazon was for my craft room. It just needed a little love. i.e. paint and material plus a wood circle to make it tad higher. I also added the feature of making the fabric top removable in case I want to change the color at some point.

This cheap folding stool from Amazon was for my craft room. It just needed a little love. i.e. paint and material plus a wood circle to make it tad higher. I also added the feature of making the fabric top removable in case I want to change the color at some point. A little Velcro did the trick! This type of thing is what I refer to as a “Buff Your Stuff” item, meaning to take something you already have and give it a facelift. It can be something old or in this case something that needed changed.  We’ve done a few chair makeovers but one of our most recent is where we took $2 Thrift Store Chairs and turned them into a Gorgeous DIY Bench Seat. Definitely check that one out!

I unscrewed the thin padded top from the bottom portion. This cheap folding stool from Amazon was for my craft room. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.One of the things I find the most difficult to do on a budget is create unique light fixtures. Normal ones are pretty bleh and nice one’s are mega expensive. You can come up with your own ideas, and I’ve check out plenty, but that can be tricky due to safety reasons. We did that for our Outdated Kitchen Transformation Series . We used a large wire bowl that we painted white. Looks awesome. However, I had three other rooms that had plain old three bulbs with a round or square cover that were held on by a screw thing in the center.

I wanted to do something simple, inexpensive, yet unique and safe. Then, an idea hit me. Oil markers… the kind that are used for decorating crockery mugs and dishes, then baked to set the ink. You can find them all on Pinterest or a good search. Now, as I’ve said many times before,  I’m no artist so I needed something simple I could share with those of you who also might be like me.  (If you do happen to be an artist you can really go crazy with these!)  Pay attention to the pointers given then grab the color or colors you want and create your own custom light shade!

FYI For our living room and dining room we hit the thrift stores and bought two chandeliers fairly cheap. If you don’t mind a tiny bit of wiring you can read our post Ceiling Fan to Thrift Store Chandelier Makeover.

Unique Light Fixtures Supplies

SAFETY AND HEAT ISSUES Oil based pens have been very popular the last few years for drawing on crockery food ware then baking for approximately 30 minutes at 450 degrees to set it. It is then safe, including dishwasher safe. Hence they are the perfect medium to use for your glass light shades!

NOTES: This is one of those projects that you can do with or without patterns.  If you’re like me and don’t have a lot of artistic skill then a pattern is a big help. But even I can put even dots or dashes or blocks around the edge of something and not have it look too bad so feel free to check out some of the ideas online others have done when drawing with oil markers on cups and plates. You just might find some designs you could do free hand.

I strongly suggest not covering your shade with a lot of paint.  Keep the design light and sparse or even just on the borders, otherwise it defeats the purpose of letting light through. Think of putting small images scattered around it or scallops or dots on the edges. Just something simple but unique. We’ve shown you what we’ve done to get you started and even given you a couple patterns. The cool thing is you can see through the glass and put a small pattern behind it needed to help you trace!

TRIANGLE ON SQUARE COVER

This is a 12.5″ square that is in my craft room whose main color is teal. I could not find the color teal in the normal sets so I had to buy a teal one just for this project. I used the pattern that is in the free download packet up top.

These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Cut out your pattern. This is one corner. You can either print four of this page or print one and move it four times, which is what I did. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

The paper will lay on the inside of your shade, but because your shade is convex it helps to cut it  in a few spots before taping it in place for tracing. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I just made a quick triangle cut myself but do whatever works so it fits down into the glass cover. Then lightly tape it in place. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Turn it over and paint in where you see the triangles. Keep in mind you can take artistic choice and add or not add what you feel is needed. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Once one corner is finished, remove the paper and align it again as before. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

IMPORTANT: You will see that the triangles do not line up correctly on the overlap. Just decide for yourself where a triangle needs to go or does not need to go in on the overlap. Just do what looks good. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I actually placed a bottle underneath in some spots to help hold the paper against the glass while I was painting with my pen. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I then taped them on the back of the glass cover, spacing them until it looked good to me. I then turned it over to check the layout. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

I then took my pink marker and traced them, then filled them in except for the middle open area. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Then I removed all of the back patterns. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

COMPASS ON CIRCLE COVER

This is the compass light cover that goes in my library. My husband Roy helped with this one. He created the design and drew it on as his hand is steadier than mine.  Cut out both sides of the compass shape.

The cuts help you to lay the pattern inside the glass convex light cover. Tape it into place. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Do the same on the other side. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Make sure the lines are straight and things look good. Then cut out the letters for North South East and West and place them where they will go. NOTE: You are going to hand draw a line from the outside edge of the shade. The letters will need to be in between that line and the inner circle line. You might want to wait to add the letters after you draw both lines. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Using a gold pen and your third finger as a guide against the outside edge of the glass cover, draw a line around the edge of the entire glass shade. I’d estimate about 1/2 an inch or a little more.  NOTE: BE CAREFUL TO NOT GET CUT IF YOUR SHADE IS ROUGH ON THE OUTSIDE EDGES. ALSO REMEMBER: Do not make the line too far into the shade as your letters have to fit between that line and the inner line. Like I stated, maybe 1/2″ or a little more. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Draw the inner circle line following the pattern. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Draw on the inner lines and triangles. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Chose a color for your letters and draw them on.  These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

Add three gold dots, evenly spaced, in between each set of letters. The best way to do this is to place a dot in the exact center between the letters, then add the other dots on each side. These unique light fixtures are easy, safe and inexpensive to make. They're also perfect for renters. So grab our free patterns or create your own.

To make the flowers, all you really need are three things. Tissue paper, string and scissors.

NOTE ON STORE PURCHASED TISSUE FLOWERS: You CAN purchase the tissue flowers. They come like this. We bought some to test. You still have to do all the work of pulling the layers out. The biggest problem is they put WAY TOO MANY LAYERS of tissue paper. Much more than is needed and the flower ends up looking too crunched up. These have 10 sheets each. We took them apart and made two flowers  out of each one. You only really need 4 sheets per flower for the best look. These also cost a lot more. Considering all you’re doing is saving the time fanning the tissue paper, its much cheaper to just make them from scratch. Should you decide to buy this type, Amazon has a nice selection.

SIZES OF FLOWERS

LARGE FLOWERS: For flowers that are 10″ or larger you can fold over the 5 sheets FIRST before doing the accordion folding. These flowers need more bulk to them.

SMALLER FLOWERS: For say a 6″ flower, cut 8 sheets  6″ by about 10″ or 12″ long.  DO NOT do STEP 1. Start with doing the accordion folding and continue from there. It will only take a short time before you realize what size works best.

I wanted a teal pull on my blinds. I had this old crystal from a chandelier. Download the free pattern sheet and choose which ones you will use. We tried cutting out the printed pattern and use it directly from our printer, however the ink ran when we glued it to the inside of our jar. If you’d like to try that we suggest spraying the page with a setting solution such as clear acrylic spray. Hair spray might even work though we’ve not tried it. This “might” keep the ink from running. The next way to do it is to use the download as a pattern and tape it onto a black piece of paper or construction paper. (Not cardstock)

his DIY table centerpiece allows you to change decor year round for any occasion. Then lift out the pegboard insert to find candles for ambient lighting! This table centerpiece is our own creation. We call it our  “Peek-a-Boo Centerpiece” and here’s why. It’s not only cost effective, as you can change it up for any season or holiday, but get this: <whispers> It has a secret compartment.<end whisper>.  You can lift out the pegboard section that holds the flowers and beneath it you’ll find candles that are seated in sand or clear filler marbles; your choice. You then have another lovely style of centerpiece should you want some ambient lighting on your table.

Talk about your  multi-purpose piece of decor!  And, as is the case with many of our projects here, it’s an upcycle. You can make it from either a plastic or wood flower box. We’ll show you both. Wow!  If you need to catch your breath for a minute after all that, I understand. But once you’ve settled down, grab your supplies and get making your own multi-seasonal, secret compartment centerpiece.

Table Centerpiece Supplies

NOTE:  How much you need of the filler items will of course depend on the size of your flower box.

We used the following amounts:
24″ wood planter: three 3″ candles and 7lb of gems.
15″ plastic planter, three 1.5″ candles and 5lb of sand.

  • Plastic or Wood Flower Box, any length (typically comes in 12″ to 36″ sizes)
  • Paint
  • Candles in glass jars. MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT HIGHER THAN THE WINDOW BOX.
  • Foil
  • Sand, Walmart, Craft Stores and some dollar stores carry this. Amazon is comparable to price. If you have access in your area to get it free, do so!
  • Glass Filler Marbles
  • Tape Measure
  • Peg board, cut to  fit box. White side (or spray paint that side white)
  • Dry erase marker (as it wipes off easily) or pencil
  • Handles for ends of wood box. (Plastic box is too thin for handles)
  • Drill
  • Jig saw or something to cut your peg board to fit.
  • Jute twine, (to fit through holes of peg board for lifting handles)
  • Candles in Glass for when you lift off the peg board and want ambient light.

I use a lot of artificial flowers to brighten things up. At some point we will be replacing our old stove but until then we’re giving it color with a new backsplash which was just a sheet of metal, flowers and colorful towels, which by the way are for decor only.

We’ve always had a small wipe off board on the kitchen wall or refrigerator for writing down things we need to get at the store. Our last was a bit small so our daughter Jennifer who played a huge role in the kitchen makeover, had the idea to use a frame we had, the type that is plastic not glass, for a wipe off board. We added a vinyl rose to match the decor and a holder for a dry erase marker. Now we have plenty of room to make notes and keep track of what we’re out of. It’s another one cut from vinyl using my Silhouette Cameo machine. (On of the best purchases I’ve ever made I might add.) Looking for some inexpensive kitchen wall decor to brighten up your home? These darling dollar store plastic plates and platters are just the thing! This charming kitchen wall decor cost us $1.00 to make. Dollar Tree carries these bright plastic plates and platters regularly. The set we did for our kitchen, assuming you have trouble with basic addition, was $3.00.  I actually cheated a bit and used my Silhouette Portrait to cut vinyl letters for my kitchen set.  But that’s just a perk if you have one.

These are so easy and fun to make and you can fill your kitchen with whatever words you choose!  If you’ve been following along you know this is part of our Outdated Kitchen Transformation. Make sure you check out our last decor addition to the project. Our Chicken Wire Frame Memo Board with Faux Succulents. It’s pretty unique!

Kitchen Wall Decor Supplies

NOTE: If you own a Silhouette cutting machine you can of course easily make your own words easily out of vinyl. You can also buy ready made letters at the craft store. The most inexpensive way is to use colored paper and card stock and cut your own. You can use our patterns or make your own on a printer.

A country chicken wire frame memo board that will brighten up your kitchen with its pretty pinecone succulents. It holds useful items plus photos & quotes!

I always wanted a chicken wire frame memo board and when we did our kitchen transformation, I decided to add one into my new kitchen. We’d used chicken wire once before in a really popular Dream Catcher Vision Board  but this one was meant to be kitchen oriented, though I throw in a little twist using a pinecone craft succulent craft we did recently. It turned out gorgeous! I even made my own mail holder from a Malt-O-Meal box. The entire thing was a wonderful upcycle project. Fill yours with whatever pleases you!

Chicken Wire Frame Supplies

PINECONE SUPPLIES

Please visit our Pinecone Craft post for details on making these.

  • Pinecones of various shapes and sizes. You’ll be using bottoms and tops.
  • Pruning shears or something to cut your pine cones with. They need a longer tip to get inside.
  • Paint, acrylic or spray paint (after testing both, spray paint is much easier)
  • Moss, if desired for containers

Instructions

We had an old rough wood frame that we decided to use for our chicken wire frame. Roy cut some chicken wire to fit it.

A keepsake is something you save from your past that has a significant meaning to you. Here's one very unique way to keep a special memory of your home. I’m a keepsake person. Not to be confused with a hoarder, mind you. I’ve saved things from my own childhood and my children’s childhood through the years. I don’t keep every little scrap of paper they ever brought home. Only the best and most special things are kept and then filed away by year in a large plastic tub. My kids are all grown now and one of their greatest pleasures is going through those tubs. I even saved recordings of them talking when they were little. And I’ve done a post on How to Make a Keepsake Dog or Puppy Paw Print. Even with all I’ve saved, there are some things I wish I’d kept. Like the key for every house we ever lived in. I’ve seen people do awesome displays with those but that just never even crossed my mind.

My daughter did something for me recently that was such a unique idea I wanted to share it in case others might want to do it at some point in the future. As part of our kitchen transformation, she removed wallpaper that had been in the home I’m pretty sure since the 70’s. We’re talking retro-city. Wall to wall fruit and berries and such. She did all the work herself and stripped it off and painted the kitchen a lovely eggshell. What I didn’t know until the next day was that she had taken a swatch of the old wallpaper and framed it for me and hung it in the kitchen as a reminder. It almost brought a tear to my eye. So I wanted to share that little tidbit in case any of you have the same opportunity in the future and might want to do the same thing.  Eventually the swatch will go in our family keepsake box but for now it will hang on our wall for several years at least, a reminder of years past.

Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Doing a contact paper countertop makeover has been a popular way to inexpensively cover up an old ugly countertop. Granite contact paper is typically used as it resembles a real granite countertop  and while if done well it looks awesome, this comes with a variety of inherent problems. Well, we’re going to show you how to fix almost all of them on one fell swoop! And if your looking for other great inexpensive fix-up ideas check out our Frugal DIY Bedroom Makeover Ideas and our Classy Living Room Ideas on a Budget.

PROBLEMS WITH A CONTACT PAPER COUNTERTOP

  1. Seams. There’s no way around having seams and even with pattern matching they tend to show. With granite paper you can’t match patterns and they show up more. Accept it.
  2. Water can get under the seams.  If it does, they will start to peel up.
  3. It’s easily damaged because, well, it’s paper. In a kitchen you can’t cut on it or put anything hot on it. In the bath room no curling irons can touch it.
  4. Edges peel up. If your countertop has a straight edge as the one shown below, the paper will peel away easily where it meets together when anyone rubs against it.
  5. Be careful. You just have to be careful because it can be nicked with anything sharp or discolored easily.

Those are some pretty big issues considering all the work you go through to put the stuff on. And it does take a good bit of work.  But we found a way to make it more sturdy and long lasting. You still can’t set extremely hot things on it or cut on it but water and peeling should not be an issue which is the biggest problem in a bathroom.

NOTE: This is best done in bathrooms mainly because you can’t cut or place hot things on it even with our method. However, if you’re really careful in your kitchen, go for it!

How To Make a Contact Paper Countertop Last

Water Based Polyurethane Gloss Finish.  Because it’s water based it doesn’t harm the contact paper.  It seals over the seams and edges so water cannot get in. It protects the surface and all your hard work. The only type I found is linked below and made by Rust-Oleum. A little goes a long way. It’s a bit pricey but we use it for all types of things such as my post on how to build a Large Surface Home Office Desk.  Buying it in the two quart package can save you almost $15.   This is of course optional. You can  just treat your contact paper with great care. But if you have kids or just don’t want to worry about being extra careful you don’t have to use it.  But if you have edges of your counter like mine, I’d still suggest gluing them somehow as they will find a way to peel just from leaning against them.

FYI This does make it more of a permanent thing. You cannot easily remove the paper later. You would have to do some light sanding to get through the gloss.

Contact Paper Countertop Supplies

NOTE: Once companies realized people were using granite contact paper to cover counters they raised the price of that type so its a bit more costly. Buy enough to cover your counter. If you’re  using a pattern that you can match you’ll need more.  One roll “barely” did my small countertop.

Time Frame

This job could be done in a day and ready to use the next day but you’d need to start early to allow yourself to get all the coats of varnish on.

How Long It Took Me
(I’ve never done this before.)

Covering small bathroom vanity: 2 Hours
Clear Coat: 1 day due to drying time of 2 hours in between each of three coats.

Download Reminders

Should you decide to not use clear varnish grab one of our free reminders to print and/or frame and  set on  your countertop! Photos of them printed up are at the bottom of post. Various sizes!Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Instructions

  1. Scrub and clean your countertop thoroughly and wipe with a clean dry cloth. You want to make sure there is nothing left on it to make the contact paper not adhere to the surface.
  2. Having someone to help makes it go much faster and makes the paper easier to handle.
  3. This project takes patience. If you hurry it up you’ll mess up.

This is what our bathroom looked like before we repainted our walls.  The house must have been a rental because at some point they had painted over wall paper. Sad but true. For the moment we were looking for a quick fix up so we did a little sanding and hole filling and added a new coat of paint.   Eventually we’ll redo the entire bathroom the “right” way and also replace the vanity but for now we were looking for a quick inexpensive facelift. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests! The walls had been painted here. But the counter top still needed some work. It appeared that some past owner had also painted the countertop. It wasn’t too bad of a job, however, they went over everything including the part of the back splash that was metal. I debated what to do and finally decided I would paint the metal parts metallic silver. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!I chose Martha Stewart’s metallic silver as it’s close to the real thing. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I masked off everything with painters tape.

I probably didn’t need to do the inside parts as those would be painted over anyway but I was thorough. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I painted two layers of silver paint on all the trim parts, allowing it to dry in between coats. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

It looked quite a bit better in my opinion. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Now it was time to start on the counter top itself. I grabbed my roll of granite contact paper. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

There will be some measuring involved on parts but for the larger areas you just unroll and start. Again, your surface should be cleaned spotless and free of any soaps etc. so that the paper sticks well.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

The trick is to make sure you have no bubbles and that it’s even as you lay it out. Use a credit card or something similar to help smooth it down as you go.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

When you come to the sink you will carefully press up to it and down into the area around it. Because our sink was curves as many are we were only able to go so far and then needed to start cutting small slits that allowed us to press the paper closer to the sink. Cut a large hole out for the sink, making sure to give you plenty of paper to work with on all sides. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Notice how I cut the paper and moved on. At some point you might run out of paper and have to make a seam. I did not due to how short my counter was. If you do have to make a seam you can decide ahead of time where you might want to have it fall for atheistic purposes. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Once I had my paper laid longways across my counter, I’d go back and do the detail work around the rest of my sink. I make small slits with my X-acto knife, part way down and NOT TOO FAR, just enough to allow me to push the paper around the edge of the sink and curve it around as shown. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Again, you want no bubbles. This might require some lifting and re-positioning. It takes patience and time. Go slow.  Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

You want your paper tucked tightly next to your sink. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

More slicing down to allow for the curve. Again, do not go down too far. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Trimming off extra. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Moving onto the other side. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

The front edge.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

The paper was not deep enough to go to the back which is where I thought I would rather have my seam as apposed to having a seam vertically down my sink.  I decided this would show much less.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I cut a piece of paper a bit larger than the area and moved it around to determine where the pattern was the “best”. Remember you can’t match granite exactly.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I then put it in place and rubbed it down.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

My piece was going to need a seam at some point. I decided right behind the facet was perfect. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

After it was in place I carefully trimmed it with my knife.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I cut the pieces for the backsplash and added and trimmed those, seaming if needed.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

I was now ready to trim around the sink. I trimmed a bit high to start. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Then I went back and trimmed it where I wanted it. You’ll notice my sink has a brown area where it was caulked years back. I plan on re-calking around it, so that’s fine.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. Because it is water based I wet my finger slightly.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

Then I smoothed it out.  Don’t use too much water or it thins it out too much.Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

If you mess up,  you can quickly wipe it off with a damp rag and add more. Transform your bathroom for only a few dollars with a contact paper countertop. You'll be amazed at how beautiful it looks & so will your family & guests!

We'll show you how to hang any wreath with a piece of ribbon and a thumbtack leaving no mark on your door! Toss in a small cork and it stores wonderfully!blank630x20

I’ve never liked putting holes in my doors and I was also never a fan of those metal or plastic over the door wreath hangers either. When I learned how to hang them with ribbon, I’ve never looked back. Then I took it a step further and created by own little system involving large thumbtacks and tiny corks for storage. I feel so organized now!  My door remains hole free and I can match my hanger if I want so it blends right in. We have a tutorial for the Peace Wreath below which I think works for any time of year, depending on how you tweak it.  We also have a Burlap Wreath made from an embroidery hoop which I think is quite clever so check that out!

Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

What’s more festive at Christmas than a wreath and what fits the meaning of Christmas more than a Christmas peace wreath complete with a peace on earth quote? All you need is some inexpensive garland, some burlap, hot glue and foam board. You could even use cardboard for the wreath base instead of foam board. We also show you the best way ever to hang wreaths that doesn’t use a wreath hanger and doesn’t put a nail hole in your door! While you’re here, check out our Twig & Twine Wooden Reindeer and our Poinsettia Christmas Placemats!

Christmas Peace Wreath Supplies

NOTES: Cardboard can be used in place of foam board.

  • Foam Board 20″ x 30″
  • X-acto Knife
  • Scotch Tape for pattern
  • Scissors
  • 24 feet green garland  This is all Amazon currently had in stock. We purchased a 50 foot batch at Walmart for $8. You can try the Dollar store too.
  • Burlap 12 plus 2 feet burlap, 2″ to 4″ wide. We used a glittery type similar to this one.
  • Brown Twine
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Large Thumb Tacks (I use the large for hanging all my wreaths though regular tacks can work but are less strong. They are an awesome, no-nail way to hang a wreath!)
  • Tiny Cork I buy a package and use the tiny ones for my wreath storage purposes. They are perfect as you will see below!
  • Small gold or copper Christmas balls –  Check out the Dollar Store for these.
  • Small wood plaque 3.5″x 5″ These sizes were the best fit, however we supplied quotes for a variety of sizes.
  • Gold Paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Printable quote below
  • Printable pattern below

InstructionsPromote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

You will need two pieces of 12 foot garland and one piece of 12 foot burlap. They will be braided so you will need to hold them together on one end. I used a binder clip tied to a chair to help out. Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

Because you will be dealing with extra long amounts of items, you can wind them up if needed while you are braiding them. It is, however, very helpful to have one or two other people help you.Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

Because our burlap was so wide we opted for a different type of braid. I’m not sure what it is called but we took a video of it below so you can see how we did it. You can use whatever type of braid you like, just make sure to not make it super tight. Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

Here is a video showing how we “braided” ours.

Next you will print out your peace sign wreath pattern and tape it together.

Place your pattern over your foam board or cardboard and trace it. Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

Using an X-acto knife cut out your pattern. You are welcome to paint your cardboard or foam board to make it match better. The goal, however, will be to make sure that your braid covers the peace sign entirely so that none of it shows through. You will start to hot glue your braid onto the foam board, again, making sure it covers the peace sign completely. christmas-peace-wreath-15

Make sure to use enough glue to hold the braid down.Promote the meaning of the season with this Christmas Peace Wreath using some inexpensive garland, burlap, a foam board and hot glue. It's simple and quick!

Once you have completed the circle you will carefully cut off your braid and tack the end with glue. You will use the remaining parts to make the peace sign feet, gluing them on as you did the circle. christmas-peace-wreath-18

Remind family and visitors to keep negative thoughts outside your home with this beautiful poem and tribal burden basket that you hang on your front porch.

Burden baskets come from various Native American culture. They were used for gathering crops and once a woman returned home she would hang her basket on the front door. Native American’s consider their home a sacred space and the basket was a symbol that visitors were to leave all worries, anger and other negative emotions in the basket before entering in order to protect the space. The saying “leave your burdens at the door” originated from these baskets.
