Even as an adult I find Shrinky Dinks’ a little magical.  Color, cut them out and then pop them into an over for 1 to 3 minutes and watch in awe as they shrink up and leave these tiny charms.  Attach them to a chain and you’re styling in no time.  One thing is for sure, all of us can use more good vibes!

IMPORTANT: DO A TEST RUN: It’s always a good idea to make a test heart first. This lets you know how they will work in your oven  and how long it should take. It also lets you make sure the hole placement is correct for the chain used.  You don’t want to do them all at once and find the hole should have been in a different spot!

This is the brand we purchased. It was $6 for 10 large sheets.

Lay a clear sheet over the heart and color it in with permanent marker of choice. These need to be lighter colors.  (We had to redo the purple hearts as they were too dark once they shrunk up.)  Color nine hearts. After the ink has dried lay the hearts over the pattern again and outline them in black. Then lay each one over the letters and color them in black.  FYI we used hand drawn letters for ours. The letters on the printable will be a little different. Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! This chunky good vibes necklace is sure to turn heads. The hearts are ready for punching holes into.  As mentioned, we ended up redoing the purple hearts because when they shrunk they were too dark to read.  Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! Using a 1/8″ hole punch, place a hole on the side of a heart. Use this heart as a template to mark the others as shown below. Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! This chunky good vibes necklace is sure to turn heads. What a great gift too!blank630x20

Lay the first heart that is punched over each of the others and make a dot where the holes will be. This assures they are all lined up exactly. It MUST be preheated before placing the hearts in. Lay the hearts out on foil spacing them apart from each other.  Place them in the oven and watch them through the oven window if possible. Otherwise take a peek every minute.  They will curl up at first but flatten out towards the end. It only takes 1 to 3 minutes. Ours took the full three minutes to shrink completely and flatten.  FYI Some might still have a curve to them. We’ll show you how to correct that below. This is right out of the oven. They shrink up about 2/3rds on size and become very thick. Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! This chunky good vibes necklace is sure to turn heads. What a great gift too!blank630x20

As soon as they come out of the oven take a spatula and press down quickly on any that are curled. This must be done before they cool, otherwise they will crack if pressed on.  Guess how we learned that? ÜHere's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! A variety of chains can be used. We chose a larger loop and used the links themselves to attach each heart. Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! This chunky good vibes necklace is sure to turn heads. What a great gift too!blank630x20

Using small needle nosed pliers bend apart the chain links to attach the hearts. We placed two chain links between each heart. Here's a fun piece of statement jewelry you can make for very little! 1. I always loved shrinky plastic when I was a kid and still love it now, it’s like real magic!
I always find the plastic doesn’t shrink quite evenly in both directions so squares become rectangles, circles become ovals etc, your hearts have worked really well.
